Well a week in vegas took it’s toll and I picked up the dreaded weed. Been back in the UK 2 days now without smoke (I believe they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas). I must say that stopping each time is not any easier (why oh why do i put myself through this!)
Will report back soon on the success.

Happy days. Well it’s been a whole lot easier than I thought. Given that I have used no aids this time (gum, patches, hypnosis – I’ll talk about my experience with these some other time) I pretty proud of myself. Which brings me on to the concept of quitting. Once you’ve identified some good reasons to quit, the next thing you start fretting about is how you will give up forever. Forget forever. I think part of the success of 12 step programmes for more serious (albeit no less lethal) addictions like alcohol, drugs & gambling – is the idea that you are just trying to not do something for that day. It’s the same concept as splitting up a large task in to many seperate components. I think it’s human nature to find the concept of not smoking for today a lot easier than quitting forever.
I’m finding my greatest smoking trigger to be coffee, but I’ve decided to stick with the coffee and cut out the cigarettes - and so far so good.
